The staff and board of directors of the Sacramento History Alliance and Sacramento History Museum are very excited to honor four Sacramento businesses and one community partner at the upcoming 5th Annual Burnett Awards! We are proud to recognize iconic Sacramento businesses that have stood the test of time and make up our community tapestry.
The Sacramento History Alliance is the nonprofit partner organization which manages the Sacramento History Museum, the Old Sacramento Visitors Center, and the popular Underground Tours. Our mission and vision is to make Sacramento’s diverse history accessible to all through engaging exhibits and immersive programs.
The Burnett Awards is Sacramento History Alliance’s signature fundraising event. Started in 2018, it was born out of the desire to honor our regional legacy businesses while at the same time create a history-celebrating event that was unique to the Sacramento community.
The awards were named in honor of R. Burnett Miller whose family has been operating Burnett & Sons Planing Mill & Lumber Company since 1869. Miller was a former Sacramento mayor, councilmember, philanthropist, preservationist, art-lover, self-proclaimed “history-buff”, and one of the founders of the Sacramento History Museum. All proceeds from this fundraising event support the many educational programs of the Sacramento History Museum.
Past Burnett Awards have honored Sacramento area businesses both large and small, such as: The Sacramento Observer, Shasta Linen Supply, Taylor’s Market, Iceland Ice Skating Rink, Corti Brothers, General Produce, Sacramento Bee, Frank Fat’s, Goodwin-Cole Company, Beer’s Books, Teichert Construction, Vic’s Ice Cream, Gunther’s Ice Cream, Lionakis, Sacramento Public Library, Osaka-Ya, Tower Theatre, Julius Clothing, Arareity Jewelers, and The Trap.
